Mixtape #5: Hyperkinetic Soundtrack

This month's mixtape is slightly different in that it wasn't compiled by me, but by the contributors to Hyperkinetic, the anthology of short stories we are putting together for Phoenix Fiction. The stories are all in and edited now and about to be submitted to the publisher, which is massively exciting. While we wait for the layout and design to get done (and the publication date to be announced), we thought we'd continue keeping the vibe alive by coming up with some fun promotional ideas.

Making a mixtape was a pretty obvious one given most of the stories have been written by music writers and musicians. Our contributors certainly know their onions when it comes to the sonic stuff, so we got them all to contribute a track that somehow represented their story. Given that the stories themselves are diverse (we have everything from tales of discarded knickers and invisible wives to a near case of incest, a post-apocalyptic game of volleyball and a contemporary take on Greek mythology), it's also no surprise that the tunes are all over the shop too.

As the below playlist illustrates, we have everything from Art of Noise to Zomby, epic metal to dubstep. Co-editor Joe Shooman has done a fantabulous job of arranging and blending the tunes into something vaguely coherent, but to be honest this is a pretty schizo mix and all the better for it. You can click here to stream / download it. Hope you like...
